In November 2019, the Student Direct Stream or SDS was introduced in Pakistan.It is an expedited study permit application stream for international students who wish to study in Canada.
Non-SDS:
Before the SDS stream was introduced in Pakistan, students applied through the regular or non-SDS stream. However, non-SDS is a general visa application for all people to work, study or migrate to Canada. It’s open to all countries and presents as an alternative study option for those who were unable to meet the SDS visa requirements. It’s processing time ranges from 45 – 90 days.
SDS:
SDS is only available to certain countries which fulfill the Immigration Refugees Citizenship Canada (IRCC) requirements. It is specific to study permit and is available to only 14 countries at the moment. Advantages are that it has a faster processing time of 20 days and successful candidates can bring their spouse, partner, and dependent children with them. SDS also gives the option of applying for PR unlike non-SDS stream.
