Work Opportunities

  1. On-Campus Employment: International students with F-1 visa status are usually eligible for on-campus employment. This can include work within the university or college campus, such as in libraries, administrative offices, or student services departments. On-campus employment typically has a maximum limit of 20 hours per week while school is in session and can be full-time during breaks.

  2. Curricular Practical Training (CPT): CPT is a type of off-campus employment that is directly related to a student’s major or field of study. It allows students to gain practical work experience as part of their curriculum. CPT requires authorization from the designated school official (DSO) and is typically available to students who have completed at least one academic year of full-time study.

  3. Optional Practical Training (OPT): OPT is a temporary employment authorization that allows students to work off-campus in their field of study after completing their degree. It can be used for up to 12 months, with an additional 24-month extension available for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

  4. Internships and Co-op Programs: Many universities and colleges in the US have internship and co-op programs that provide opportunities for students to gain practical work experience while studying. These programs often involve a combination of classroom instruction and work placements with industry partners.
